It was a shock to see Andrey Larin’s photograph of the Church of the Virgin Hodigitria (1763). It has been dismantled prior to restoration. This is a recognised technique, the old timbers are re-used where possible and the rotten ones replaced. Hopefully the skills and funds are there to bring this beautiful church back to life.
